Common Skin Allergies
Contact Dermatitis:
This form of dermatitis occurs when an allergic reaction is triggered by a substance. Some common triggers include soaps, detergents, household cleaners, perfume, cosmetics, jewelry, and poison ivy.
Eczema:
This is a common skin condition that can also present as an itchy red rash. Eczema can occur in babies, children, and adults and can be all over the body or just in some areas. Eczema is usually quite itchy and common in patients with dry, sensitive skin.
Hives:
This condition appears as itchy areas that are either red or skin-colored. Sometimes there are triggers for hives such as foods, infections, medications, or pollen. There are many treatments available for short-lived (acute) and long-term (chronic) hives. It is important to have an evaluation to see if the cause of your hives can be determined.
Psoriasis:
This type of skin condition appears as a thick scaly rash that forms on the elbows, knees, lower back, and scalp. In some cases, psoriasis may be caused by genetics. Oftentimes, people with psoriasis will deal with flare-ups throughout their entire lifetime.
